Rate of Last Resort
The Government of Alberta has amended the Regulation under the Electric Utilities Act, which establishes the default price of electricity.
As of January 1, 2025, the Rate of Last Resort (ROLR) will be the default electricity option in the province of Alberta. This only impacts members on the Regulated Rate Option (RRO) as you will be automatically switched from the RRO to the ROLR.
The ROLR for Lakeland Power Co-op will be 12.699 cents per kWh.
If you are currently on the Regulated Rate Option, we encourage members to consider the Stable Rate Option!
The ROLR will be a fixed rate, from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026, while the RRO was a floating rate which fluctuated each month based on market conditions.
Included in the ROLR energy rate will be a 0.1₵ per kWh consumer awareness surcharge. This charge will go directly to the Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA).
For members who remain on the ROLR rate, we are required to share your full contact detail (full name, phone number, email address, and mailing address) with the UCA every two months. The UCA will contact you to inform you of your energy choices with Lakeland Power Co-op aside from the ROLR.
